Rams head coach Mike Gibson. Photo by Jason Kerr.

For a man who’s just inherited the reins of a CIS football program, and all the frantic activity that goes with it, Mike Gibson looks surprisingly calm. The new Regina Rams head coach arrived home from a recruiting trip several days ago, and even though he only started in January, he’s settled into his newly purchased chair in his relatively empty office like he’s been here for years. Only the plain white office walls, free from pictures or personal mementos, give things away.

The Callie Curling Club. Photo by Rikkeal Bohmann.

Behind a glass window, there is a wall of trophies and awards in the Caledonian Curling Club of Regina. One plaque has the name Ray O’Shaughnessy on it. He can usually be found curling twice a week in the old rink during the senior’s league. He is 89, but the curling club he spends so much time at predates him.

Julia McGregor training and practicing her Muay Thai kicks. Photo by Tiffany Head.

Walk through the door at most gyms for the first time and there is a feeling of nervousness and trepidation.   The mood at SIAM kickboxing and Muay Thai is relaxed and fun.   Instructors joke around with each other and the students. You can feel a sense of family as they welcome all new comers.

The gym is geared toward traditional Muay Thai training and most people join for fitness, to build confidence, for de-stressing or to manage anger in a positive way.

Local business owner, Greg Prokopetz, refuses to take part in the government's online licensing program because of its high cost. Photo by Colton Hordichuk.

Imagine it’s early May and the new fishing season is officially underway. You head to your local tackle shop to pick up everything you need for a day out on the lake. While the cashier scans your tackle, they regretfully share the news that they’re unable to issue angling licenses.

That’s the case at Pokey’s Tackle Shop in Regina, where, of two years ago, they stopped selling fishing licenses to its customers.
